Gift of Many Gifts

         The Gift of Many Gifts

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father…" James 1:17

Christmas time, the most wonderful time of the year, when we set our thoughts on gifts and giving. Some gifts we treasurer in our heart that were given to us in Christmas past that we will always cherish.  But the greatest Gift that was given to us all is the Gift that God gave us.  “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.“ (II Cor. 9:15).  The Creator of all existence came to be our gift.  A gift that opened a dimension to Heaven and angels celebrating the Birth of Christ. (Luke 2:11-14)  It was foretold 700 years before Jesus was born by the prophet Isaiah of His birth.  The Birth of Christ is not only a gift, but a Gift of Many Gifts.

“For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulder.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

A Child is Born – The angels announced the birth of Jesus.  “For unto us is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)  Jesus became the gift of God to rescue us for our sins.  God fulfilled His promise to give us a gift that would heal our relationship and connect our hearts back to Him.

A Son is Given – All giving began with God.  God gave us a world to live in, and gave us a life to enjoy.  But this life would end by death in sin.  “For the wages of sin is death, but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) God wanted us to have a much greater and abundant life that would never end.  The greatest Gift came from Him.  He gave us His Son, Jesus Christ.  A Gift that money can’t buy, but only God can give.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16

A government shall be upon His shoulder – No doubt Jesus established this government when He carried the cross to Calvary, where our sins were nailed to that cross.  He rose to new life and gave us this new life.  He became King of Kings and Lord of Lord.  One day He will rule all the earth and all the nations.  We shall be His children.

Wonderful Counselor – The word wonderful means to excite, to amazement, wonder and admiration.  The counselor is an expression of great wisdom and of qualifications to guide or direct the human race.  But this wonderful counselor brings gifts that can transform our life into an image of His likeness.  A counselor that give His spirit that will give us comfort, peace and joy.  A spirit that will provide wisdom, knowledge and strength.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God that gives to all liberally.” James 1:5

“God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of Power, Love and a sound mind.” 2 Tim 1:7

The Mighty God – Jesus is our Mighty God.  He left Heaven to be born through a miraculous birth.  A child that would spend His first hours on earth in a feeding troth.  Our very God wrapped up in eight pounds of humanity.  Creator of all the universe.  “For by Him all things created, that are in Heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible.” Colossians 1:16

Everlasting Father – It is good to have a great relationship with our human father, but life’s situations sometime make things difficult.  Our human fathers may be imperfect.  The Son of God became the father that we would wish for.  A father that will look out for us, protect us, provide for us and that will never leave us or forget us.  There is nothing that can separate us from His love for us.  He even looks out for our future.  He provides us an everlasting home.  God gave us a permanent relationship with Him.  He became a Gift of a loving father with everlasting love.  “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39.

Prince of Peace – At the time Jesus was born into this world of uncertainty, it was a world without hope, and a world filled with war, poverty, confusion and death. Heaven and the angels came forth and announced the Gift of God into the world. “Suddenly there was with the angels a multitude of heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” (Luke 2:13-14)  He became the real peace to overcome the troubles of this world.  “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 15:27)  Christmas is a time to recognize the gift that brought peace into our world.  A peace that only a Child can bring.  A peace that only a Son can carry.  A peace that only the Wonderful Counselor will know.  A peace that only the Mighty God can make.  A peace that only the Everlasting Father can give.  A peace that only the Prince of Peace can rule.

The true Christmas spirit reminds us of the greatest gift.  A Gift that is already opened, we just need to open our hearts to receive it.  May our hearts be filled with all the Gifts that Jesus has given us.
