Matrix of Sin
Our World: a Matrix of Sin
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:32
Our world today is moving in a fast pace. There are a majority of people, regardless of what background they come from, are all moving ahead trying to get more connected to the world than God. We are choosing to allow worldly things to take priority in our lives, while things that are of great importance and matters most to God become secondary in our lives or of no concern at all. We must understand the reality of our lives and the world that we live in.
Our life consists of staying connected to our economy, the advancing of communication, technology, world views, products, ideas and other aspects of culture. This is what is being integrated into our lifestyles. We spend a lifetime focusing our energy and time on elements that can be seen around us. The Bible teaches us to focus on elements that are not seen: Grace, faith, hope and truth. “For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Cor. 4:18)
“For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36
“The whole world lies in wickedness.” (1 John5:19) The world we live in is covered with wickedness and sin. “The whole world is a prisoner of sin.” (Gal 3:22).
Our world is a matrix of sin. What is a Matrix?
An environment of material which something develops, a surrounding medium or structure
Free choices become the matrix of human life.
The movie Matrix is a story that centers on a computer generated world that has been created to hide the truth from humans. In this movie the people are kept in slavery without their knowledge. The world is designed to simulate the peak of human civilization even thou it had been destroyed by nuclear war. The majority of the world’s population is oblivious to the fact that their world is digital rather than real. They continue living out their daily lives without questioning their reality. They were connected to a false world that was brought on by deception.
Sin entered into this world by Adam and Eve choosing not to follow God’s instruction. God instructed them to eat of the trees in the Garden, but not of the tree in the midst of the garden, do not eat of it or touch it. If you do you will die. (Gen 3:2, 3) However, Satan deceived them into eating of the tree in the midst. This resulted in changing the course of the world. Satan is still deceiving mankind today. Here is how the Bible states that Satan is connected to the world and still deceiving mankind today:
He is the prince of this world - (John 14:30) Jesus spoke, “I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me.”
He is the prince of the air – (Eph. 2:2) “Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience”
The god of the world – (2 Cor. 4:4) “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
He is the ruler of darkness - (Eph 6:12)”For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
He is the father of lies (deception) – (John 8:44) “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
The word “Satan” means adversary. (1 Peter 5:8) “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” The Bible describes the devil as “that which deceives the world.” (Rev 12:9)
We live in a dark and fallen world where evil and wickedness is running rampant. Even though with the condition of this world, God is still sending His love out to the people of this world. John 3:16 states “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus came to reveal the truth and to set us free from the darkness and sin of this world.
1 Timothy 2:3-4 “ For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
John 12:46 “I am come as a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”
Satan is not the ruler of this world. He is the ruler of sin, wickedness, deception and darkness. God is the sovereign ruler and controller of this world, as well as the entire universe.
Psalms 24:1 “The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
Psalms: 50:12”…for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.”
Ephesians 1:21 God has given His Son authority: “ Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.”
Satan had a great position in Heaven until he rebelled against God. He said, “ For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” (Isaiah 14:13-15) He also deceived one third of the angels to follow him. Pride caused Satan’s downfall. When he made this move, God cast him out of heaven so fast, his ejection from heaven resembled a bolt of lightning streaking across the sky. Jesus said, “And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.” (Luke 10:18) Now he is roaming the earth deceiving mankind from knowing the true life that God has to give. The gift of God is eternal life and the wages of sin is death. Satan knows his time is short. Satan’s removal from office also came with a future punishment and judgment. By polluting the world with sin, the devil thought that he bought him some time. Jesus came into his world to defeat Satan. Satan and his demonic forces did not know that the cross was God’s chosen method of redemption. Satan deceived man to put Jesus on the cross. When Jesus rose from the grave, the bondage of sin was broken and the countdown to Satan’s doom resumed. “Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” (1 Cor 2:8)
Sin has made us all contaminated with the same corruption that afflicts the evil one. What people do not realize is that they are doomed to share the same punishment unless they turn to Christ. The blood of Christ is the only cure that will break the bondage of sin and make us children of God.
Without Jesus we are disconnected from God!
Without Jesus we live in darkness!
Without Jesus we are bound to our sins!
Jesus proclaims that He has overcome the world and He holds the keys of death and hell. (John 16:33) Jesus said “I am the door, if any man enters in he shall be saved.” (John 10:9) Jesus is the only door that leads out of this world. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one can come to the father, but by me” (John 14:6) Like the movie Matrix, there was a certain key and a certain door that lead them to the creator of the Matrix.
Jesus has the key and He is the door that leads us out of the Matrix of sin. Satan will reveal other doors that tempt our worldly desires and lead us further into this dark, wicked Matrix of sin. Unlike Satan, whose fate is sealed for punishment, we have an option to choose Jesus (as the one) our true Savior.
Nothing is more important than a decision to follow Jesus. The desires of this world do not compare with the importance of being prepared for the return of Jesus. Jesus must become our deepest desire!
