Power of Choice
The Power of Choice!
There are two great powers in the universe. One is the power of God. He is Omnipotence – all powerful. The second greatest power in the universe is the gift that God has given to us. That would be the power of choice. This is the power that every person possesses – the power to choose. God has given mankind equal opportunities to make choices in our life. God’s grand design from the foundations of the world constituted free will to man.
It is the power of choice from man’s own heart and will, which God has given man that enables God to love us and for us to receive that love and to love God in return. “...Because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) The power of choice opens the door to something wonderful beyond what we can imagine: true fellowship between God and man for eternity.
Everybody possesses the second greatest power - the free will to choose. Why not choose to have the greatest power which is God, to guide and help us make other choices and decisions of life. God’s word, the Holy Bible is a great treasure of wisdom and truth about God, about life and about eternity.
§“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God”. (Luke 4:4)
§“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and he shall direct they path.” (Proverbs 3:5,6)
§“When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee (Proverbs 2:10-11).
We are confronted with choices every moment of our lives. We have a choice of what kind of life we will live, and type of person we want to be. We are a result of the choices we make every day. Every choice of life comes with responsibility and consequences. God knows our circumstances. God knows about people who have been brought into terrible situations by other people’s choices. Adam and Eve had a choice to follow God’s instructions, which they failed to do. This resulted in a serious consequence of their lives, which we all are the result of that choice. The scripture says that “We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) The main thing is that God knows what is best. Through the prophet Isaiah, God said: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8, 9)
It has been said that “every choice carries a consequence. For better or worse, each choice is the unavoidable consequence of its predecessor. There are no exceptions. If you can accept that a bad choice carries the seed of its own punishment, why not accept the fact that a good choice yields desirable fruit?” – Gary Ryan Blair
The Bible tells the story of a great King Solomon. He had great responsibility overseeing his kingdom. When God appeared to Solomon in a dream, God asked him “What shall I give you?” He asked God for wisdom and an understanding heart to care for his people. Because of this request God granted him wisdom and an understanding heart. Because he did not ask for riches, God gave him riches and honor that was greater than any other king.
Solomon was a young King that made a wise choice. Solomon loved the Lord. There is an inner wisdom which is of the heart rather than of the head. The Bible says, “If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally.” This is a heavenly wisdom that God’s spirit gives to those who love Him. Having this we possess the key to all things in heaven and on earth. (1Cor. 25) When a man chooses to seek first the Kingdom of God, all else is added. (Matt 6:33) When we choose to delight ourselves in the Lord we can be trusted with our heart’s desire. (Ps. 37:4).
With my relationship with God, I have experienced that the more I know God, the more I love Him, and the more I love Him, the more I want to know Him. God must become our deepest desire. We must choose to be more concerned with the inward things of our heart than the outward things.
Recently I asked a friend at work if she had a wish, what she would wish for. I waited a few minutes than went back to see if she had an answer. She answered and said “I believe I would wish something for my children.” I told her that was a wise choice. That reveals the love she has for her children. God loves His children too. God revealed his love for us by choosing to give His own son to die on the cross for our sins. Jesus became the power to free us from bondage of sin and connect us back to God’s love and purpose.
§Jesus became the word of God to dwell with man – We must choose to know Him.
§Jesus became the truth, the way and life – We must choose to follow Him.
§Jesus became the Bread of Life – We must choose to receive from Him.
§Jesus became the Door that leads to the Father – We must choose to go to Him.
If you choose to have a true fellowship with God; He begins to reveal the important things in your life and will then fill your heart with His true qualities that will transform you into His image so that His purpose will be accomplished in your life.
“Choose you this day who you will serve...As for me and my house, We will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
